The Western Digital 1TB external hard drive is the no-frills, hassle-free external hard drive techies dream about. It has no fancy metal casing that's just going to add dollars to the price. Instead, what Western Digital offers is a minimalist, reliable device. The hard drive doesn't have any annoying pre-installed backup software that can't be turned off or uninstalled. Instead the plug-and-play ease allows you to start backing up your content in seconds after taking it out of the box.
The hard drive itself is solid. It lies down on its back rather than standing up which makes it less likely of accidentally tipping it over. It's not that big and even though it's advertised as a desktop hard drive I've taken it with me in my backpack without taking too much room. Rather pay less for this than pay more for a so-called portable hard drive with half its space capacity. The casing is black matted except for its sides which are glossy. I wish Western Digital had gone with either/or but the differentiation isn't that noticeable. It has a nice weight without being heavy and its size has the feel of nice compact book.
Besides the hard drive, it comes with an adapter and a mini USB cable. The mini USB cable can be used on other devices as well. The mini USB cable I used for my PlayStation Portable broke so I used my hard drive's cable and it worked. I've also used it on my digital camera so its use is versatile.
This is my second external hard drive I've ever gotten. The first one (made by HP) was expensive ($120) and annoying to use. I exchanged that and took a chance with Western Digital and I'm glad I did. I've now had this hard drive for 6 months and it has worked flawlessly. It doesn't get hot and or make any noise. Some reviewers complain of the white light on the back of the hard drive being its only indicator of when a file is being transferred, but most of the time I rely on the status bar on my PC to see when a file is completely transferred over so I don't see it as a problem.

I'm a commercial truck driver and need both a printer and scanner for everything I do. I've been through several printer/scanner combos over the years and they usually don't stand the beating that anything electronic in the truck suffers. I bought this printer four months ago and have had no issues with it whatsoever, even after nearly 75,000 miles of bouncing in the truck. I print log sheets daily and scan 3-4 times per week. I have also had to print for law enforcement a few times. I printed from inside a scale house for one officer and he had to come out to the truck to see my set-up and decided he was buying one of these printers for his house.
As for set-up, it was very quick to go from pulling it out of the box to having it ready to go. I had no issues getting it onto the network in my truck and it printed flawlessly from my old HP laptop with Windows Vista. My laptop finally failed a few weeks ago and I was forced to purchase a new computer. I purchased a Dell with Windows 7 and was printing before I had really figured much out about Windows 7.
I have the printer set to print borderless for my log sheets. The printer recommends against this, as it says print quality will be diminished. My log sheets still come out flawless. I HIGHLY recommend this printer to anyone in the market for a printer/scanner combo. Even if it failed today, I would buy another one!

Bought this printer based on the 4.5 stars reviews. The printer is very well packaged, because of that it takes longer than I had liked to take all the plastic and orange tape off that keeps moving parts from moving (make sure you remove all tape from inside the printer as well). Installation of the printing head and ink cartridges was pretty easy, but a steady hand is necessary when installing the printing head. The wi-fi set up was tedious and lenghty but flawless and the same goes for the software installation. Overall everything went well and the printer worked right away. The printouts are of very good quality, with no banding, bluriness, streaks, blotches and/or misalignments.the printer and software are pretty easy to use and straightforward enough to get the hang of it quickly. Internet explorer seems to be quirky at printing and the website image must, at times, be scaled in the preview printing option of IE before sending it to the printer. Also the wi-fi works perfect with no glitches. Now regarding the printer itself: It is fast but noisier than I would have liked, also the build quality is ok but not great, it tends to be a little flimsier than I would have liked and way too much plastic, however it does not look cheap. This is a large sized somewaht heavy printer, just keep that in mind. Overall: GOOD!

I have been very pleased since purchasing the MP560 several months ago. Although there are some features lacking, the printer represents an excellent value in the price range, and suits my needs perfectly.
The printer is used in a home office / small business environment, and is used mostly for printing text and copying, with occasional use as a scanner and photo printer. Set up was simple, but I do not use this as a wireless printer.
I have found the overall print quality to be very good with both text and graphics, and photos. Although I did try some adjustments, the default settings were acceptable. Ink usage does seem a bit high, but not unacceptably so, at least for my amount of use. My one complaint with this printer is not being able to set black and white printing as a default. There is a 'greyscale' setting, but not as a default. There may be a way to do this, but I have not yet found out how.
The design and construction of the printer is excellent: the location of controls and receptacles is logical, operation is intuitive, and replacement of individual ink cartridges is straightforward. The case is nicely finished, doors and trays open and close smoothly, and operating noise is acceptable.
Attention was obviously given to design and aesthetics. The printer closes up completely when not in use, helping keep the control panel and platen dust-free, and if left closed, the out-feed tray drops open automatically when starting to print.
A fax and and a document feeder have been left off, but they are not really missed with my use. A document can be scanned and e-mailed if necessary, and document feeders on printers in this price range never seem to work well anyway. Ink usage does seem a bit high, but not unacceptably so, at least for my amount of use.
Overall, the MP560 is a great printer for the price: well constructed with good printing quality.

I actually purchased an HP printer at Walmart a week before this printer became the gold box deal. Within that ONE week, I was on the phone with Tech support about 12 times. Honestly, I should have known better than to purchase an HP printer. I tried to install it without using their suite of software and it kept getting upset with me. It wouldn't play well with my Apple Airport, and freaked out when I made my wireless connection hidden. When I saw the gold box deal, I packed up the HP, brought it back to Walmart and ordered the Canon from Amazon.
I followed the Mac instructions from the lovely commenter who gave step by step directions and it went flawlessy. I didn't even have to un-hide my wireless network! It works perfectly, and I didn't have to install any garbage on my mac. The print quality is great, and I love that the paper tray is hidden, so I can leave paper in it while it's off without it being unable to close.
To the commenter who mentioned having to uppercase their network and password, and to anybody else who thinks that's true, keep turning the dial until you get to XYZ and the next letters will be abc lowercase.
Love this printer. If you're reading this, do it. Get it. You know you want to.

When I set this up, I was really happy with how easy it was. Basically, you plug it in and then register it on your computer. Depending on which programs you will use with it, you just go onto your computer and enter a code and everything is set up.
That being said, while I still truly love this player, I have a couple of issues with it.
1) I am always afraid that I will lose the remote. It is so small.
2) The remote is erratically responsive or unresponsive. It seems like you have to get it at the exact angle for it to work correctly. This can be annoying.
3) It got unplugged one day, and my amazon.com video library did not show up anymore. I'm not sure if this was an amazon.com issue or a roku issue, but I had to uninstall the amazon on demand program and then re-set it up.
4) The quality is not always what I would expect HD to be even though I have it plugged in with a gold HDMI cable. Sometimes, there is a lot of pixelation, and I have a top-of-the-line LCD tv.
Despite these small issues, you can't beat convenience. I used to plug my laptop into the TV, and this ROKU makes it so much easier. I don't have to plug in speakers or make sure the laptop is charged or set the screen on my laptop or the myriad of other issues I had before.
If you are someone who can overlook the small stuff and enjoy the convenience, this is a great player.

I was nervous about getting this, not being especially good at hooking up things plus we have a 10 year old TV and older equipment for our internet. I have a Netflix account where we get one movie at a time and I have been watching instant movies on my laptop and we got sick of it.
I ordered this when it was a goldbox special at 79.99 and waited for my day off to be relaxed while I set it up. Well...since it took only a matter of minutes before I was watching my first movie and all the worry was for nothing! Worked with my old TV and equipment and its awesome!
We love it so much I ordered a second one from Amazon which is now 69.99 for our bedroom downstairs.
Its an amazing enhancement to my Netflix membership and well worth it. This winter when the storms are blowin' outside we will be snug as bugs watching a movie on our amazing roku player!
Just buy it, especially since its such a great price now, you will never regret it!

Used it daily for one year, then it just died for no reason. Cheap and effective, but don't expect it to last long.
~ September 1, 2010 ~ Michael Griffin from San Francisco, CA said:Streaming of Netflix consistently fails - Customer Support is awful
I've been a Roku user for almost a year, and would never buy their product again, for two key reasons:
1. Streaming issues with Netflix
Roku has a connectivity problem with Netflix Watch Instantly which causes it to drop the connection every few minutes. This makes it virtually impossible to have a good user experience with Netflix. The service works flawlessly with Amazon Video On Demand, but Netflix is a disaster. This is a widely reported problem, and from time to time, credits have been issued to users due to the problem.
2. Awful, and I mean just atrocious, customer service
Roku runs its customer service out of India. Customer service works through a set of resolution steps which completely ignore the reported issues of the customer. If customer service is unable to resolve the case, they log a ticket, and then you wait AT LEAST FIVE BUSINESS DAYS before you get your next response. The eventual response will ignore all previous case history and attempt to walk you through the same steps. Escalation to live support for technical issues is impossible. When I complained, I was told "Don't worry, you're our very special customer".
Apple may experience the same issues, and the lack of access to Amazon is definitely a shortcoming, but I would absolutely never repeat the Roku experience.

I bought the Roku HD player because my girlfriend does not believe in cable but I spend a lot of time at her house. Now I can watch movies from my Netflix cue anytime I want without having to lug my laptop and get it plugged in to her TV every day. The quality is far superior to what I was getting out of my HP notebook even though it also has an HDMI output. The Roku hardly ever needs to rebuffer, and it starts the movies much more quickly than my notebook computer does. The only reason that I took away one star is because it does not have access to Hulu for network television. Her antenna reception is terrible and it is so frustrating to try to get through an entire television show tih signal loss ever 5-10 seconds. If the Roku could stream Hulu or some other service with current, or even last week's episodes of network shows it really would replace cable.

i bought this for my new canon printer, for some reason canon decided not to include a cable for it, perhaps because it's a wireless, anyhow this cable is made by belkin who I've come to trust to make good quality cables and offer them at reasonable prices, it works, its long, good quality, what more can i ask for in a cable, oh yeah its affordable too, just over $5, if you need a printer cable or this type of usb cable for anything else, pick this one up.

Very happy with it, and data transfer to my printer is fast on my older computer. Belkin makes a good product; I have had a Belkin 4-slot flash card reader for some time and love it. The price was almost too good to be true but it's great, most places wanted a lot more up to $30 for a 10" USB cable. The first one I bought had the wrong kind of connector ends (another vendor). My bad, didn't do my homework well enough. Delivery was fast. I'd like another one for my other computer so I don't have to pull it out of the back of the tower but just the printer slot to switch and print from my other computer (my two are networked to get on the internet thru a router but won't "talk" to each other). But for many print jobs, I can easily find a way around that for now.

Cable arrived on time, and it was easy to hook it up to the new Epson C88+ that I also got from Amazon. No problems with the cable. Aloha, Rudy

I had this printer cable for a HP 4880 All-In-One and it had been working for 2 years without any problem. I just sold my old printer with the cable and got a new one for my new Canon MP560, still works like a charm.
Made with quality material as well as sold for a cheap price on Amazon, you could never get such a good deal in Bestbuy or walmart.
Molded strain relief and PVC overmolding make the cable durable, while its impedance-matched, twisted-pair construction minimizes cross talk, ensuring high-speed, error-free transmission. Gold-plated copper contacts provide maximum conductivity and minimize data loss. An aluminum undermold shield helps meet FCC requirements on EMI/RFI interference, and its foil-and-braid shield complies with fully rated cable specifications, reducing EMI/RFI interference.
All Belkin USB cables are rigorously tested and certified by Belkin's quality-assurance engineers and are 100-percent, fully compliant with current USB specifications and all other applicable industry standards.

I ordered this with my new canon camera as it was suppose to be free, but I was charged for it anyway. It isn't a top rated Digital card and is very slow even for me. I am going to order a different brand. Even if free, I wouldn't have been pleased, but less than happy that I had to pay for it.
~ September 1, 2010 ~ Matias Bilbao from Miami, FL said:SD Card never arrived
After seeing a promotion for a free SD card from Patriot (sold by Amazon) on the website, and paying for overnight shipping, the SD card was never included in the shipment. The card was not charged to me, but Amazon obviously forgot to put it in the box (shipping box, not product box) along with the camera. Very disappointing. To make matters worse, when you select a product there is not an "issue button" for having not received an order. Simple a "return" or "create review". Well Amazon, here is my review.
~ August 26, 2010 ~ research it first from Potomac, Md. said:Too Slow for Camera's
I'm sure most people will not notice it unless they are used to LOW resolution picture taking but when I tried this with my new 14MegaPixel camera it took a while to write the picture to the SD card. This was Free with the purchase of my camera but I am still returning it and going to get something that has at least 15MB/second speeds instead of this one that is rated at 4 MB/Sec.
The problem with using slow SD cards like this is when you take a picture it will show "BUSY" on your camera until it writes the picture to the SD card instead of allowing you to take another picture right away.

I'm giving away my first ever digital camera to my nephew and it only had a 512MB SD card. I decided to buy the Patriot 4GB SD Card to replace the old 512MB card, giving him plenty of storage to capture his memories on his new hand-me-down digital camera. The SD card works great and my nephew's never been more excited.
